Describe what you do: We sell coffee, pastries, bagels, fruit, and beverages. We also have whole bean coffee for sale as well as gift certificates for the holidays.

What sets you apart from similar businesses? Our coffee is locally roasted in Chicago by a small batch coffee roaster called Passion House Coffee Roasters. We are exclusively serving their coffee because of the quality of the product. Our coffee is roasted fresh throughout the week for us. We have a house blend that is unique to our shop called the Ravinia Coffee Station Roast.

What made you want to open this type of store? I'm returning to the roots of my career history. I used to manage a store in Wicker Park, and I loved it.

What made you want to open this type of store? Coffee and people; filling a very lacking need in the neighborhood in which I live.

Why did you decide to open your business in Highland Park? It is close to my home and the city's priority is supporting the local business owner.

Why did you pick this specific location/storefront? Its proximity to the train, schools, the visibility from the intersection, and size.

What obstacles did you find when you started? We've just opened and the process has been surprisingly smooth and very enjoyable.

If you could offer local officials one piece of advice to make their town more attractive to entrepreneurs, what would it be? The city of Highland Park has been very cooperative and pleasant to work with throughout the entire process.

What mistakes did you make? Other than a couple of unexpected budget surprises, the process has been free of any major mistakes.

What did you do right? Sticking to the business plan. I also listened to advice, but at the same time always kept in mind who I was and kept my vision in mind every step of the way.

What advice would you give to someone else looking to open a business in Highland Park? Go for it! The city is very welcoming to potential new business owners.
