On a recent Friday night in Newport News, a man pulled up in his car to a woman standing outside of a Denbigh hotel. After a brief exchange, he agreed to pay her $40 for sex. He got out of his car, and they walked up a flight of stairs to a hotel room on the second floor. She turned the key and opened the door. The man and the woman were not alone. Inside, Newport News police officers were waiting. The man was one of five charged on prostitution-related charges that night, and one of 12 Newport News police charged during a National Day of Johns operation that took place on July 17, 24 and 31.
