  1. The case for Obamacare

After three days of arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court, the case for the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, better known as "Obamacare," remains strong. Four members of the court, including the justice expected to be the key swing vote on the issue, asked tough questions of the government's lawyer about the requirement that individuals obtain health insurance that is at the heart of the case against the law. But the inaptness of the comparisons they used to call the individual mandate into question reveal the uniqueness of the health insurance market and the propriety of Congress' decision to regulate it in the way it did. And even as the justices questioned whether Congress overstepped its powers, they risked doing the same.

  5. Razing the JFX, lowering O's expectations

The Orioles have new orange and black banners along Russell Street and Pratt Street, and aren't they pretty, and aren't they grand, and shouldn't we be grateful? The banners proclaim "20 Years," and we're all supposed to understand and appreciate what that means — two decades since the fabulous, taxpayer-funded Oriole Park opened at Camden Yards. But, who cares? It's been nearly 30 years since the Orioles were in a World Series, 14-soon-15 since they had a winning season. In the Angelos era of Baltimore baseball, pessimism springs eternal in the human breast.

  9. Obamacare appeals: The justices will see you now

Whether one supports or opposes President Barack Obama's health care reform law, the administration's choice not to prolong the appeals in the legal challenges to the act and to move the matter to the Supreme Court for review in the upcoming term should be welcome news. Much is at stake in the debate, and advocates and foes alike have now had an adequate opportunity to generate their arguments.

    Opinion L.A.
