  3. Benghazi attack: Time for an honest accounting

Despite this season's election-year politics, the Obama administration needs to acknowledge mistakes at the U.S. consulate in Libya, where four Americans were killed last month in an apparent terrorist attack, and to learn from them. That's the only way to make sure such tragedies aren't repeated in the future, and it's also the only way to move forward if we are to be successful in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

  7. Obama-Romney: It's not over yet

Things certainly seem to be breaking President Barack Obama's way of late. A slew of new polls last week showed gains for him in crucial battleground states, most notably Ohio, the one state no Republican has ever won the presidency without. Mr. Obama won't repeat his feat of taking Indiana, and North Carolina may be a stretch, but polls in Florida, Virginia, Nevada and elsewhere suggest the possibility that this election might not even be that close.

  11. Muslims shouldn't blame America for anti-Islam video

For the past few weeks there has been outrage in Muslim countries across the world because of an anti-Islam video posted on YouTube ("Anti-U.S. protests rock Pakistan," Sept. 22). Yet as a 12-year-old Ahmadi Muslim American, I didn't feel angry at...

  13. The tweet was offensive, the reaction, un-American

President Barack Obama's rousing defense of American free speech and the First Amendment at the United Nations this week made his country proud. In the context of rioting in the Muslim world over an anti-Islam video, the message was overdue: In a free society, even hateful messages are protected, and placing restrictions on speech helps lead to political oppression.

  19. Is Obama really throwing Israel under the bus?

During the current presidential election campaign, Republican nominee Mitt Romney, in a clear effort to win Jewish votes, has asserted that President Barack Obama has "thrown Israel under the bus." Some 78 percent of American Jews voted for President Obama in 2008, and Mr. Romney is trying to cut into that margin, particularly in swing states with significant Jewish populations such as Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Given the importance of Israel to the Jewish psyche, Mr. Romney is trying to demonstrate that, because of Mr. Obama's alleged lack of support for Israel, he is not worthy of the Jewish vote.
