Drew Peterson granted trial delay in murder-for-hire case

A southern Illinois judge has granted Drew Peterson's request to delay his trial on charges that the former suburban Chicago police sergeant plotted to kill the prosecutor who helped convict him in his third wife's death. The Randolph County trial was scheduled to begin July 6 as Peterson requested a speedy trial after being charged in February. But Peterson's lawyer said Friday in a brief hearing that the 61-year-old ex-Bolingbrook officer needs more time to prepare. "We're just not going to be ready by then," said attorney Lucas Liefer.
