People who needed to be taken to hospitals were put in baskets that the snowmobiles pulled to waiting ambulances on nearby main streets, Hoff said.
In Kane County, dozens of motorists were rescued with the help of snowmobiles this morning along a stretch of highway near Hampshire in Kane County, police said.
Motorists on the scene said nearly 60 cars were stuck in the snow around Illinois Highway 47 and Illinois Highway 72.
Kane County Sheriff Lt. Pat Gengler couldn't say how many motorists were stranded, but said snowmobiles were used to rescue stranded travelers overnight. He said many of the stranded motorists had already been rescued.
