Will 'True Detective' rumors spark a Vince Vaughn revival?

Back in the fall I suggested that Vince Vaughn remake himself in the model of Matthew McConaughey. They're both tall and charmingly smooth. Their careers took off in the 1990s as they excelled at playing rakish, borderline repulsive figures. And they both went through a long dark age, making a lot of bad movies in the years since. They have a lot in common.

Except, of course, that only one is having a McConaissance.

And for Vaughn, who grew up in Lake Forest, there has been "Delivery Man," "The Internship," some other junk.

Well, guess what: According to TVLine, Vaughn is in talks to star in the second season of HBO's "True Detective." Nic Pizzolatto (himself a former instructor at the University of Chicago) has said the show's next act will feature four main roles. Colin Farrell's name has also been thrown around. Taylor Kitsch's name has been out there, too.

Are we on the cusp of the Vaughnlightenment?
