A 3-year-old at a baptism party was hit by a car in the Archer Heights neighborhood and died overnight.

The boy was hit about 10:40 p.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of West 47th Street on the Southwest Side and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead there about 11:11 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The boy killed was identified as Jimmy Lomas, of the 300 block of 27th Avenue in Bellwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He died from head injuries from the accident, the medical examiner's office determined following autopsy today.

Police initially thought the incident may have been a hit-and-run but the driver that hit the boy drove to a police station to report the incident. The driver was cited for hitting a pedestrian in a roadway.
