Switching problems foul Burlington Northern commute
nbsp; (Nancy Stone / Chicago Tribune)
Inbound and outbound trains were forced to stop so crew members could manually operate switches near Fairview Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. That resulted in delays of 20-30 minutes for all inbound trains that started west of Fairview – including Downers Grove, Lisle, Naperville and Aurora.
Miller said the switching problems began about 7:20 a.m. According to Metra schedules, about a dozen inbound commuter trains are scheduled to pass through the Fairview station between about 7:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. There are about half that many outbound trains in the morning hours, according to schedules.
As of 9 a.m., delays of 30 to 35 minutes were being reported on Metra website.
Miller said it wasn't known how long the switching problems will last or what caused the problem.
