BOURBONNAIS — Tight end Martellus Bennett was not present at the start of Chicago Bears practice Wednesday, as his indefinite suspension by the club continues for a second day.
Coach Marc Trestman on Tuesday would not say what it would take for Bennett to be rejoin the team. Bennett was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team after his on-field attack of cornerback Kyle Fuller during Monday's practice.
Trestman said the team would evaluate Bennett’s status daily and maintain an open line of communication with him.
“We want Marty back,” Trestman said. “We love him. He’s important to us, but we’ve got to work through this process.”
The Bears have a walkthrough scheduled for Thursday that is closed to media. They open their exhibition schedule Friday at 7 p.m. at Soldier Field against the Philadelphia Eagles, and it would be a surprise if Bennett suited up for the game. A more uncertain question seems to be whether he’ll attend.
