The White Sox Friday placed pitcher Philip Humber
on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with a right elbow strain and brought up Brian Bruney from AAA Charlotte.
Dylan Axelrod, called up WQedbesday to replace Zach Stewart
, will start in HUmber's place Saturday against Milwaukee.
In another move, the White Sox designated former Cub Kosuke Fukudome
for assignment. Fukudome had been rehabbing a strained side muscle at Charlotte and was hitting only .171 with four RBI at the time of his injury.
Humber, who pitched a perfect game April 21, was just 3-4 with a 6.01 earned-run average. With his trip to the DL, the Sox have two-fifths of their opening day rotation injured. John Danks
is nursing a sore left shoulder.
Bruney, last seen with the White Sox as a reliever, actually could return as a start. He was 1-3 for Charlotte, but had made three starts and saving 11 games.
