Sondheim, and not only he, heads to Chicago Shakespeare

It was an afternoon to remember at Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

In the same audience for the Sunday matinee of Gary Griffin's production of "Follies" were the much-awarded playwright David Henry Hwang, the British theatrical giant Sir Peter Hall and Stephen Sondheim, the composer and lyricist of that very piece.

Hwang is in town for Monday's Joseph Jefferson Awards; Hall is here to be honored by Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Tuesday; and Sondheim (who went backstage after the show) was here to receive the Tribune Literary Prize on Sunday morning.
