Cubs’ manager Mike Quade didn’t back off his postgame comments from Wednesday, stressing that shortstop Starlin Castro and second baseman Darwin Barney need to communicate better.
“I’ll bet these two have it worked out next time it happens,” Quade said about a fly ball falling between then in the first inning of Wednesday’s loss to the Phillies. “That’s all that really matters. There’s a premium that goes on defense at those two positions. They’ll work it out and they’ll get better.
“It’s just another learning experience for those guys. I really believe they are going to be here together for a long time. And don’t want to see a mistake like that happen again. And I don’t believe it will.”
