A man who was gunned down in the Cragin neighborhood Sunday afternoon on the Northwest Side has been identified.

Someone shot Joel Verdugo, 20, in the head in the 4900 block of West Belden Avenue about 2:30 p.m., according to police.

Verdugo was walking on the street when a man about 18 years old came up to him and fired several shots at him, hitting him in the head, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Verdugo, of the 5900 block of West Augusta Avenue, was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m. Sunday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy was scheduled for today.

No one is in custody and Area North detectives are investigating.
