A 21-year-old woman was shot in the neck as she rode in a car early this morning on the Far North Side, one of at least five people shot Sunday morning, police said.
Several people were in the car when a male shooter approached on foot and started firing about 12:15 a.m., Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
After the shooting, which happened near the intersection of West Rosemont and North Claremont avenues in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, the car's driver sped into an alley just east of North Western Avenue.

As the car was moving northbound through the alley, it crashed into another vehicle, and its occupants -- including the woman who had been shot -- took off running, according to police.
First responders found the woman half a block northwest of the crash, at the northwest corner of Western and West Devon avenues.
The woman was brought to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where her condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
After the shooting, police blocked off the alley with yellow and red tape as they searched for evidence at the scene of the crash. Two red sedans remained in the alley, with debris lying between them and two doors still open on one of the cars.
Further south in the alley, police officers searched with flashlights for shell casings. It was not immediately clear exactly where the shooting took place, Alfaro said.
No suspects were in custody as Area North detectives investigated. Police did not immediately comment on a motive for the shooting.
At 4:55 a.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the back of the Yards neighborhood.
The man told police he had been in a vehicle in the 4500 block of South Paulina Street when a second vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, striking the 19-year-old in the shoulder.
The man drove himself to a firehouse at 4401 S. Ashland Avenue seeking help and was taken in good condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The victim told police he could not describe his attacker or the vehicle he was in, and police found no evidence that the shooting took place in the 4500 block of South Paulina when they canvassed the area, Estrada said.
No suspects were in custody in the shooting.
About 6:30 a.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the hand in the 4900 block of South Throop Street, Estrada said. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
Earlier, a 44-year-old man was shot in the leg about 3:55 a.m. near South Morgan and West 70th streets in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, according to News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The man was on a sidewalk when he tried to intervene in a fight between two other males, Estrada said; one of those males pulled out a gun and started firing in the direction of the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim was hit in the upper right leg and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.
No one was in custody, Estrada said, as police continue their investigation.A 20-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg about 5:23 a.m. in the 3500 block of West 58th Place in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. He was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition has stabilized. No other details were available.
