A Midlothian man charged in the Thursday slaying of a Harvey man was denied bail when he appeared in Bond Court this afternoon.
Dashonti Wiley, 39, was charged Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the Thursday shooting death of 19-year-old Keithen Rupert, according to Harvey police.
About 3 p.m. Thursday, Harvey police responded to a call of shots fired near the area of 152nd Street and Vine Avenue. When they arrived, police discovered Rupert, who had been shot.
Rupert, of the 15800 block of Myrtle Avenue in Harvey, was taken to Ingalls Hospital in Harvey where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police said the shooting was a result of an earlier altercation between Wiley and Rupert, the release said.
