Metra service on the Rock Island District line resumed this afternoon after an Amtrak train derailment block the Metra tracks at 16th Street, according to Metra.
Metra trains were not allowed to enter or exit the LaSalle Street station due to the morning Amtrak derailment, according to the website.
The No. 58 City of New Orleans train scheduled to arrive at Union Station this morning was stopped near 16th Street after the wheels of the locomotive lost contact with the tracks, according to an Amtrak spokeswoman.
At least 197 passengers were abroad the train, but there was no report of injuries, she said.
As of 11:30 a.m., buses were being sent to to the scene to take the passengers to Union Station, she said.
As of 1:50 p.m., Metra service had resumed with minor delays.
