Man dies after Burnside fire

An 81-year-old man who was injured during a fire in at his Burnside neighborhood home Friday night has died, officials said.

Peter Stewart, 81, of the 700 block of E. 88th Place, was pronounced dead at 9:29 p.m. at Advocate Trinity Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. 

Firefighters were called to the 700 block of East 88th Place at 8:41 p.m. Friday evening, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.

When firefighters arrived, they found a 2½story frame home on fire, Hernandez said. The fire was in the rear of the building.

The man was found in the back of the building and he was taken to Trinity hospital in critical condition, Hernandez said.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

No other details were immediately available.
