A 22-year-old man was killed after being shot in a drive-by shooting this afternoon in the Rogers Park neighborhood, officials said.

James Brown, of the 3200 block of North Central Park Avenue, was pronounced dead at 2:40 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Brown was on the 6800 block of North Ashland Avenue when he was shot in the upper torso at 2:05 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

The man was taken to the hospital but was reported dead on arrival, said Mirabelli.

Police said Brown was outside when he was shot. An older, dark-colored vehicle was seen quickly leaving the area, said Mirabelli.

Area North detectives are investigating.
