Man dies in construction accident on far South Side

A 37-year-old Evergreen Park man was pronounced dead after he was injured in a construction accident in the Hegewisch neighborhood, officials said.
The man was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m. at MetroSouth Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. A spokeswoman identified him as James Quigley, of the 9700 block of South Lawndale Avenue in Evergreen Park.
Officials said that the man was part of a crew putting in a steel beam for a bridge when the beam slipped and fell on him.
Police said the man was injured when the beam fell on his head at the consruction site on the 13100 block of South Torrence Avenue.
