While Byrne made history as the only woman to hold the office of mayor of Chicago, or any other major city, I don't recall anyone saying he or she voted for Byrne because she was a woman. She was elected because she was the most qualified person for the job -- a woman ahead of her time, not to mention a woman of incredible style.
The former mayor could always be counted on to break out her gorgeous spring hats as soon as they hit the stores, no matter the weather.
The citizens of the Chicagoland area continue to enjoy the many fruits of Byrne's legacy, and it is fitting she be forever linked to our oldest and most prestigious landmark.
