A second brother involved in a shooting at his mother's Huntley home on Memorial Day has died.
Mark Grundei, 50, died Wednesday of severe head injuries at Hospice Care Center in Woodstock, authorities announced.
His brother, Robert A. Grundei, 48, of Coral Springs, Fla., also suffered a severe wound to his head in the shooting and died a short time later at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
The men's mother, Alyce Grundei, 81, had called police to report the shooting and was found by police at about 5 p.m. bleeding from her eye and head, but survived. She had called police to report the shooting, according to authorities.
Police have not said who they suspect was the gunman. A five shot revolver was recovered at the scene.
The death compounds what was already a tragic sequence of events for the family, which had gathered for the funeral of a third brother, Brian, 45. He drowned in a Deerfield pond two weeks earlier.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that the two sons had gotten into an argument and a firearm was then obtained," Deputy Chief Mike Klunk said.
"We are still waiting for the final results from both autopsies and gunshot residue analysis from the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Lab" to determine who the shooter was, Klunk said.
Authorities also could not say what the argument was about.
Mark Grundei lived in the Huntley home with his mother.
