One firefighter had a health emergency while fighting a blaze that caused a boarded-up building in the East Garfield Park neighborhood to partially collapse, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

The firefighter was transported to Rush University Medical Center to be checked out following the fire in a three-story building at Whipple and Madison streets about 8:25 a.m., said fire department spokesman Kevin MacGregor. No details on the nature of the health emergency were available.

The small building, about 20 feet by 40 feet, suffered a partial collapse during the fire, but no one else was injured in the fire, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by about 9 a.m.
