A fire broke out this morning at a Commonwealth Edison electrical transformer in the South Lawndale
neighborhood, authorities said.
The transformer is near a one-story building in an industrial area in the 4100 block of West 36th Street, Chicago Fire Department
No injuries were reported, and ComEd said the fire did not result in any electrical outages. A utility spokesman said the cause of the blaze was unknown.
The fire was called in at about 7:08 a.m. and spurred a hazardous materials response, said Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado. Firefighters were using foam to extinguish it.
About 60 firefighters were on scene with between 15 and 20 pieces of equipment, Rosado said.
