Watching Drew Brees pick apart the Packers for 323 yards and four touchdowns Monday night sure was fun. Just one question: Where did Marques Colston go?
Patience has not paid off for Colston owners waiting out his thumb injury. The Saints' go-to receiver for the last couple of seasons has been playing second fiddle to Lance Moore since returning.Until he turned his one catch into a 70-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, it was hard to tell Colston was even on the field during New Orleans' 51-point explosion.
Reggie Bush's looming return takes catches away from all the receivers and bumps pleasant surprise Pierre Thomas from the lineup. Billy Miller and Jeremy Shockey split time, so neither tight end is sure to have a big game. The majority of scores keep going Moore's way.
So keep Colston on the sideline against the Bucs. He's too good not to get it going; wait for a playoff payoff.
Extra pointers: The Broncos will run into another buzz saw at New York because the Jets have a sneaky-good defense. It's hard to recommend sitting Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall, but this matchup doesn't bode well for them. ... About the only thing the Raiders do well is defend the pass, but I think Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez keeps rolling. And Larry Johnson is due for a breakthrough. The troubled running back quietly gained 81 yards on seven carries last week. ... You never sit Randy Moss, but I can't advocate starting any other Patriot against the Steelers, even red-hot Matt Cassel. ... The Packers won't get pummeled two weeks in a row, but keep riding the Panthers' DeAngelo Williams. He has rushed for 469 yards (more than half his season total) and five TDs in his last four games. Wow.
Choices with hot Saints limited
