Dramatists Guild headed to Chicago

The Dramatists Guild of America, the trade organization for playwrights, is to hold its annual conference in Chicago in August, bringing to town such theatrical luminaries as (among others) Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Gretchen Cryer, Carol Hall, Winnie Holzman, David Ives, Lisa Kron, Bobby Lopez, Terrence McNally, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Marsha Norman, Theresa Rebeck, Stephen Schwartz, Jeff Sweet, John Weidman, George C. Wolfe, and Charlayne Woodard.

The keynote speaker at the shindig is Steppenwolf artistic director Martha Lavey. Other events include seminars on "Writing Wicked" (with Holzman and Schwartz), "Writing the Musical Book" (with Normal),"Writing the Solo Drama" with Woodard, Kron and Cryer,  "Writing History" (with Weidman) and "Writing for Your Audiences" (with Lopez and Anderson-Lopez). Both Rebeck and Miranda will appear "in conversation."

A meet and greet with the Chicago theater community is planned for Aug. 22.
