Emergency workers respond to a bus accident at 95th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue that injured 26 people, according to the Chicago Fire Department. ((Abel Uribe/Chicago Tribune))

A CTA bus crashed into a light pole on the South Side, injuring 26 people, officials said.

Fire officials called an emergency medical services plan II for the accident at 95th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, sending at least 10 ambulances to the scene, according to the Fire Department.

Of the injured, seven were in fair-to-serious condition when taken to area hospitals, and 19 were in good-to-fair condition, according to the Fire Department.

A No. 95E/95th was headed north on Cottage Grove Avenue when it hit a pole about 4 p.m., said Brian Steele, a CTA spokesman. Photos from the scene appear to show the bus collided with a city light pole.

The accident resulted in the bus receiving a crack in its windshield and minor front-end damage to the, Steele said. No reroutes were necessary.

Steele did not have information on whether the driver of the bus was injured.
