The Las Vegas-based company, whose financial backers include Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh and his VegasTechFund, has said it plans to hire 300 assistants nationwide over the next year. On Tuesday, it announced that it was seeking job applicants from the Chicago area. It made similar announcements recently in Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Dallas.
The virtual assistants handle many of the same duties of executive assistants. Zirtual said nearly 90 percent of its employees are women, and most are stay-at-home moms.
Zirtual’s monthly charges for a virtual assistant range from $199 to $1,199. All of the virtual assistants are U.S.-based and customers may work with an assistant in the time zone of their preference. All of the plans include a dedicated virtual assistant who works with the client on a one-on-one basis on tasks that are directly submitted by the client by email and phone.
The $199-a-month package includes eight hours of help. In the $1,199 “VIP plan,” clients can use their virtual assistant for 55 hours a month.
All of Zirtual’s assistants are employees, not independent contractors, who receive benefits and “target compensation” of about twice the minimum wage in their respective cities, the company said.
