Forward Tamika Catchings scored 25 points, and guard Briann January added 14 points as the Indiana Fever held on for a 71-67 win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse inIndianapolis.
The Fever (16-17) moved a half-game ahead of the Washington Mystics (16-18), who lost Saturday to theNew York Liberty. The Sky (15-18) trail Indiana by a game heading into the regular-season finale.
Chicago plays host to the San Antonio Stars on Sunday, while Indiana finishes against the Liberty on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Both the Fever and Sky are playoff-bound.
The Fever cruised to a 32-16 after one quarter Saturday, but the Sky trailed just 54-52 after the third quarter.
Allie Quigley led Chicago with 17 points. Elena Della Donne contributed 14 points, though she shot just 5-for-14, and Epiphanny Prince scored 11.
Both teams shot 41 percent from the floor, but Indiana held a 39-28 rebounding advantage. Catchings grabbed nine boards, and teammate Erlana Larkins pulled down eight.
