Michael Swanson, 19, of the 100 Block of Wilshire Drive, Wheeling, and Irvin Vaysburg, 19, of the 1000 Block of Sheridan Road, Buffalo Grove, were arrested Thursday and charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony.
The two allegedly stole $1,000 in cash on July 2 from the Speedway Gas Station, 1010 Milwaukee Ave. in an unincorporated area near Deerfield, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Police Sgt. Sara Balmes.
An investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division, along with Wheeling police, identified the two men. Their Lake County warrants were part of 84 served over the last two weeks — the largest-ever sweep by the Sheriff’s Department, Balmes said.
Vaysburg was arrested at the College of Lake County, and Swanson was arrested at his home, Balmes said.
A Wheeling police representative could not be immediately reached Friday afternoon to say if charges were pending there.
Both men are still in custody and could not be reached for comment. Bail for each was set at $250,000.
Swanson is scheduled to appear in court on March 25. Vaysburg’s court date was scheduled for March 4.
