The crash happened at 55th and Richmond streets just before 3 p.m. and involved an SUV and a car.
Of those injured, two were in serious-to-critical condition, eight were in fair condition and one was in good condition, the fire department said.
Police said three people, including a 5-month-old child, were taken to Stroger Hospital, and three others were taken to Holy Cross Hospital. A fire department spokesman said the two most critically injured people were taken to Stroger.
At the scene, the SUV rested on its roof, the personal belongings from inside it strewn on the street. The other vehicle sat nearby, airbags deployed and its front windshield broken.
Police said that the SUV, a 2003 GMC Envoy, was traveling south on Richmond when it was struck by a 1999 Dodge Intrepid in the intersection, police said.
Authorities faulted the SUV, saying the driver should have allowed for the Intrepid to clear the roadway before driving through the intersection. The SUV driver, Norma Martinez, 40, of the 3200 block of West 65th Street, was cited with failure to yield the right of way and driving without a driver's license, police said.
