Metra officials say they'll resume work on a possible extension of the suburban Chicago commuter rail service into Kendall County after getting support from local government leaders.
Metra said Wednesday the project would provide service between Chicago and Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville. The BNSF extension could also continue west to Plano and Sandwich.
Metra's BNSF service currently stops in Aurora.
Metra received $7.5 million in federal funds in the mid-2000s to do preliminary cost and environmental studies. That work was put on hold last year to give local officials time to decide whether they want to proceed with the project.
