Florida officials plan crosswalk changes outside Flora-Bama

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced plans to improve pedestrian safety outside a landmark Panhandle bar that straddles the Alabama state line.

The Pensacola News-Journal reports (http://on.pnj.com/2bmShKz ) that a Flora-Bama employee died in May after being struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk outside the Perdido Key bar. Two people were injured in the crosswalk last week when they were struck by a vehicle.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tonya Branton told the newspaper that officials have completed a safety analysis and determined that a pedestrian signal is needed for the crosswalk.
