Shoppers to take over Ellicott City Superfresh next month

Shoppers Food & Pharmacy is moving ahead with plans to open a new store in Ellicott City next month now that a bankruptcy judge has approved its plans to take over the location now owned by Superfresh.

Shoppers expects to take over the store on North Ridge Road on July 7 and reopen on July 17. The pharmacy will stay open during the transition.

It will remodel the store during the summer.

The company said it was working with the local union to offer jobs to existing Superfresh employees.

Superfresh put 25 stores up for sale earlier this month as its parent company, A&P, reorganizes under bankruptcy protection.
