Ralph Klein, Harford businessman and philanthropist, dies at 88

Ralph Lincoln Klein, founder of the nine-store Klein's ShopRite of Maryland supermarket chain and a major philanthropist in his native Harford County, died Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Hooper House Hospice in Forest Hill. He was 88. The cause of death was complications from heart and kidney disease, a family spokesperson said. Mr. Klein, who lived in Forest Hill, had stopped actively working at his family's Harford County supermarkets a few years ago, but he and his wife, Shirley S. Klein, remained active in local philanthropy, particularly in their support of University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, where the Klein Ambulatory Care Center on the campus is...
