Maya Angelou is one of the most well-known American authors and poets of this generation. A civil rights activist who has worked with Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, she is one of the most decorated writers with over 30 honorary degrees and dozens of awards. Best known for her highly acclaimed autobiographical book, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” the 84-year-old has also written plays, movies, and television shows. But she’s not done yet. The American icon, who also teaches at Wake Forest University, is still lecturing and on May 10 will bring her one-woman show to the Bushnell.
