Story | Mar 7, 2014There's not much to see on the northeast corner of Wabash and Superior in downtown Chicago these days. Just a fenced-in private parking lot threatening, UNAUTHORIZED VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED. But that sign should be replaced with a plaque, because 100 years ago, on that very site stood an apartment building where one of the most influential books of the 20th century was written: "Winesburg, Ohio" by Sherwood Anderson. William Faulkner said, "Sherwood Anderson was the father of all my works — and those of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc. We were influenced by him. He showed us the way." But somewhere over the years, Anderson has slipped into obscurity.
