1. Al-Jazeera: Saudi women can now ride bikes

For those of you who missed it, on April 1, Saudi authorities -- unnamed -- lifted a ban on women riding bikes -- but only if they "wear a full-body abaya, be accompanied by a male relative and stay within certain areas. They are allowed to bike for recreational purposes only, not as a primary mode of transportation," according to Al-Jazeera. Some on Twitter were unimpressed -- or thought it was an April Fools' joke. I've never thought Saudi clerics were big on those kinds of jokes, though -- if they even knew it was April Fools' Day at all. So, progress?

  7. No joke: Airfare by weight might just fly

News of Samoa Air charging passengers by the pound, rather than by the seat, came so suddenly that some people thought it was an April Fools' Day joke. Not only was the announcement no joke — the airline hadn't retracted it by press time — it eventually could become an industry standard.

  11. An April fool
