Hip hop is a cultural movement and type of music that became popular in the United States in the 1980s. Hip hop music originated in the South Bronx region of New York City in the late 1970s. Hip-hop artists vocalize over beats and instrumental tracks, usually consisting of repeated phrases. The use of extended drum breaks led to the development of mixing and scratching techniques.
