7. Capsule movie reviews: 'The Fields' and more

This can't be correct: Cloris Leachman and Tara Reid topline a period horror-thriller about a young boy who becomes convinced the Manson family has moved into the cornfield in back of his house? And it's not some mad parody but, rather, an earnest effort, which makes it even more weird. The absolute best part of "The Fields" is simply that, letting the very idea of this cast and this story marinate in the brainpan for a moment before coming to the obvious common-sense conclusion: This cannot possibly work out.

  9. Think different

If you release a wine before its time, it's not so fine. In the early 90's when the band Nirvana and grunge music out of Seattle was blowin up, I spoke with the rock band Candlebox during my KLOL days. After selling more than 4 million copies of their first album which reached #7 on Billboard's album charts, they were pissed off that their record company was forcing them to release their second album when the band knew it wasn't quite ready yet, to get more product into the market place and increase sales.

Indie-rock royalty. Slacker-generation supergroup. Post-whatever whatever. It's fun to invent hyphenated superlatives for Wild Flag — the Portland, Ore.-based band made up of two singer-guitarists, Carrie Brownstein and Mary Timony, keyboard player...

Plants and Animals The End of That (Secret City) It’s rare to find classic-rock tinged jams with so much swagger and juice that still have a sense of humor (not so much as to be a gag) and real artistry to the lyrics. “The moral of the...

  19. A history of men's hairstyles

The ancient story of Samson and Delilah shows how important a man's hairstyle can be. The tale has inspired sculptors, composers and screenwriters, and Samson's long locks are part of a long list of classic men's hairstyles. What follows is a look at other memorable men's hairdos throughout history and in pop culture.

  21. Sub Pop a bright spot in record industry

Some highlights of a Friday-morning walking tour of Sub Pop's spacious third-floor office in downtown Seattle: A "wood record" award for the Shins, commemorating sales of 100,000 copies of "Chutes too Narrow." A soda machine in the lunch room stocked with Rainier beer. A framed chunk of plaster from Sub Pop's first office where Kurt Cobain wrote his name and address on the wall so the record label would always know where to send his checks.
