    This Saturday is your one chance of the year to experience the Florence Griswold Museum for free. The Museum opens its doors to all on its ninth annual community day on Sat., May 5. Guests can walk around the grounds, participate in activities, visit the gardens and view the Museum's current exhibition <em>...isms: Unlocking Art's Mysteries</em>. Musician Dave Fry performs his family-friendly concert at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Patricia O'Brien and Judy Perry, artists who've survived breast cancer and a car accident respectively, will talk about the role of art in their recoveries at 2 p.m. in the Museum Shop. <strong><em></em></strong>

    American photographer Walker Evans left an indelible mark on this country's history with his striking images of squalor and poverty during the Great Depression. The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme will be exhibiting some of Evans' most famous pieces, as well as his later work that he completed during his final years living in Connecticut, including &quot;Brookfield Center, CT" (1930-31, pictured).   17. The Magic of Christmas at Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, through Jan. 8

    The post-Thanksgiving season has barely begun, but those of you itching for a bit of Christmas cheer can scratch it this week. The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme celebrates in style with its annual festival <em>The Magic of Christmas, A Holiday Tradition</em>, which runs through Jan. 8. <em>Miss Florence's Artist Tree</em> is back for its eighth year, and features more than 120 painted palettes by artists from all over the U.S. On Friday, Nov. 25, Deborah Costine performs <em>The Woodland Cinderella</em> puppet show for kids (11 a.m., 1 &amp; 3 p.m., tickets: $5, call to purchase). The museum shop will also be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Nov. 25, so make sure to keep an eye out for great finds. The celebration includes events through its run, check out florencegriswoldmuseum.org for a full schedule.
