Maryland State Fair

The Maryland State Fair has been a late summer tradition since 1878, and locals affectionaly refer to it as "The 11 Best Days of Summer." Up to 500,000 people come out to the fairgrounds in Timonium for agriculture exhibitions and shows, carnival rides, concerts, thoroughbred horse racing and homegrown food. Thousands of 4-H and Future Farmers of America members compete in shows and demonstrations. Other contests include the Miss Maryland Agriculture competition, a chili championship and an animal costume contest.     We live for summer for two reasons. First, there's an abundance of free stuff to do. Local bands play music for us and we don't have to pay a cover!
