The agent for Edgerrin James says the league's leading active rusher has signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Earlier Tuesday night, veteran running back T.J. Duckett told

The Associated Press he had been waived by Seattle to clear roster space.

"It's official! Congrats to Edgerrin James on signing a 1 year deal with the Seahawks," was the message posted on the Twitter page of agent Drew Rosenhaus late Tuesday.

A Seahawks spokesman did not immediately confirm Rosenhaus' announcement.

James, who is 11th on the NFL rushing list with 12,121 yards, did not practice with the Seahawks in the morning. Rosenhaus was inside team headquarters into Tuesday afternoon but declined to comment at that time.
