Webster - On October 24-27 Webster will be sending six individuals to the National FFA Convention, held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Webster Agricultural Mechanics team consisting of Laren Johnson, Ryan Shepard, and Brandon Eisenbraun who received first in the state competition in Brookings are hoping to push their luck and receive first at nationals. Also going to this Convention is Danny and Derek Zenk, and Olivia Siglin; they are receiving the American Degree which is the most honored and highest degree you can receive in the FFA.
When asked how Fred Zenk felt about his Ag. Mech team he said, We are a high flying team with plenty of skill; if they use it right, we could earn gold medals. The members of the team are also very excited. I am so glad I got this opportunity, and I hope we do really well! commented Laren. Fred also couldn't be more excited about three of his former students, two of which are his sons, receiving this most honored and highest degree. Oh boy! I always knew they would get far, and I couldn't be more proud of Olivia, Derek, and Danny!
Competing for that number one spot is a very big part of the National Convention, but this is not the only event going on! The Band Perry will be performing with special guest Brantley Gilbert on October 24 at 9:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. Also, the World's Toughest Rodeo will be the last event held in the Pepsi Coliseum before its full interior renovation. The first Rodeo will be held on Thursday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m., and the final Rodeo will be held on Friday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. There will also be multiple guest speakers, a talent show, workshops, and leadership.
The National Convention is a time to get to know new people, you may otherwise never meet. This isn't just a good opportunity for students and teams, but also parents, advisors, and guests. We wish the best of luck to the Agricultural Mechanics team, as well as giving congratulations to those American Degree winners! Have fun at the National FFA Convention! Win the gold!
