The sixth annual Cowboys and Candlelight Art Aberle Memorial Rodeo Team Fundraiser will be at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club in Aberdeen.
The event will include a silent auction and dance with music provided by the band Thunder Ridge. Cowboys and Candlelight will help defray costs for the Northern State University rodeo team.
The team, in its sixth season, has found a home at Horseshoe Stables, owned and operated by Carol Aberle and her late husband, Art, according to a news release. The team boards its horses and practices for competition at the facility.
Art Aberle, a rodeo fan, was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. Throughout his illness and treatment, he continued to work with the team. Aberle lost his battle with cancer in September 2006.
In his memory, a rodeo scholarship has been established by his wife and their children, Bridget and Nik.
The Art Aberle Memorial Rodeo Scholarship is awarded in the spring semester to an NSU rodeo team member. Anyone interested in contributing to the scholarship may contact the NSU Foundation at 605-626-2550.
The rodeo team kicks off its spring rodeo season in Spearfish and then heads to Brookings, Lincoln, Neb., and Dickinson, N.D.
