Members of the Aberdeen area are invited to audition to join the orchestra for its 2011-12 season, A World of Music.
This year, the orchestra will play three major concerts - one featuring Franz Liszt in November, one in mid-winter featuring the Northern State University Concerto/Aria Competition winners and the NSU Choir and one in spring featuring internationally renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Members of the orchestra will also perform in the pit orchestra for Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of the Opera. The orchestra also participates in the annual NSU Holiday Extravaganza concert.
The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony rehearses from 7 to 9:30 Tuesdays in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. Rehearsals for the 2011-12 concert season will begin Tuesday with an open reading rehearsal from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the band room. Members of the community and new NSU students are invited to attend rehearsal before auditioning.
Vodnoy joined the NSU music faculty in 2005 and is in his seventh season as the orchestra's conductor.
