The Huntington Beach High boys' water polo team is off to a hot start in the 2012 season.
The Oilers won their sixth straight game to start the season by downing San Clemente, 12-5, Tuesday. They secured the win by outscoring the Tritons, 4-0, during the fourth quarter. Jovan Jeremic converted five of his nine shots to lead the Oilers in scoring and sophomore goalie Alex Wolf recorded 15 saves.
Before defeating San Clemente, Huntington traveled south for the Poway Tournament and won the three-day event. The Oilers took the title by defeating Granite Hills, 7-5, in Saturday's championship game.
Huntington had advanced to the final by knocking off Rancho Buena Vista, despite not having two of its top players — Jeremic and Scott Schultz — for the semifinal game. The two senior leaders were absent due to taking their ACT test, Coach Brian Anderson said.
The Oilers travel north Thursday to compete at the Santa Barbara Tournament. On Tuesday, they play a 3:15 p.m. nonleague match at Santa Margarita.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
