The holidays bring out a potpourri of parties. The latest was hosted by La Crescenta resident Lynne Muro. Her home decorated for Christmas brought out the holiday spirit in her guests last Saturday. A gift exchange and lunch of hors d’oeuvres, drinks and desserts satisfied the most “grinchiest” of grinches.
Muro’s guests were Glendale residents Tim Lewis, Darlene Litchfield, Marilyn Hernandez and daughter Patricia Mozo. Also along for the fun were more La Crescenta residents Eleanor Spaziano and Susie Ponce. Also present for the presents were Tujunga resident Mary Lewandowski and Vickie Gonzalez, hailing from Montrose.
The occasion was a reunion for members of Spaziano’s 2011 course called “Getting Through the Holidays.” Spaziano’s current nine-week course of the same name meets at St. James Parish Center in La Crescenta.
Another recent holiday get-together, this one a dinner party, was held at the Glendale home of Jane McVay. Her festive table of breaded pork chops and baked potatoes attracted Glendale residents Ralph Guarino, Susan Woolley, Patti Ranous, Dana Jensen, Tom Hilquist and good friend, Rancho Cucamonga resident Heidi Krauser.
All are members the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Glendale 2nd Ward, which is like a diocese.
A brunch for any occasion was recently held at Glendale’s Carousel Restaurant, where brunchers enjoying the delicious Middle-Eastern food were Glendale residents Marilyn and John Gunnell as well as Margaret Kaufman.
Dr. John Gunnell has had an oncology practice in Glendale for many years.
A girls’ afternoon out was also recently enjoyed by Glendale residents Paula Devine and yours truly at Gaucho’s Village restaurant on North Brand Boulevard.
Gaucho server Manny Garcia did the honors by cutting meat from tall skewers. Devine’s choice was top sirloin. Garcia, also from Glendale, lives close to the restaurant.
The popular Brazilian steakhouse is also known by its Portuguese name, a Churrascaria. But by any name you call it, it’s a protein lover’s dream. A salad bar is also available, but leave plenty of room for steaks of every cut.
Another recent party of best friends dipped into the Sunday champagne brunch at Glendale’s Oakmont Country Club.
All graduated from Hollywood High School in the ‘60s. The group was primarily a Valley bunch for brunch. San Fernando residents enjoying their mimosas were Marilynn Bradbury, Marilyn Molinari, Bonnie Trojan and Adriana “Kitchie” Godel from North Hollywood. Godel was a popular waitress for many years at the now defunct Chadney’s restaurant in Burbank across from NBC Studios.
Making it just in time was April Dammann from Hollywood.
At the same time that the champagne-brunch bunch was enjoying delectable dishes including omelets and roast beef from carving stations, eggs Benedict and a smorgasbord of salads, Gayle Davitt’s birthday party was underway in a smaller banquet room at Oakmont.
Davitt is the wife of Glendale Community College Supt./President Emeritus Dr. John Davitt. Gayle Davitt didn’t have to travel far. She and her husband live across the street from Oakmont.
Party guest Marion Grayden had to bow out just a little early while the gals were still partying.
