Crescenta Valley Briefs: CV Alliance talk on drug use among local youth, final installment of SPARKS event

Glendale Unified Supt. Richard Sheehan will speak at a quarterly meeting of the CV Alliance about drug use among local youth from 8 to 10 a.m. on Friday at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, fourth floor council rooms A and C., 1812 Verdugo Blvd.

Also speaking at the free event will be John Furay, director of the citation diversion program for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Children Kids ages 2 and older and their parents can participate in Little Owls Reading Nest, a nature-themed story time that will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive.

The free event, which features Descanso staff reading picture books aloud, will be held at the Nature's Table inside the gardens.

The final installment of the activity-filled SPARKS event will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday at the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave.

The free event, to be held on the church's basketball court, will include contests and ice cream.

Learn about a lion's bite during "The Lion's Roar," an educational presentation to be given at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd.

The free event is being hosted by the Crescenta Valley Sierra Club and the speaker will be Terri Sodershrom, a docent at the Los Angeles County Zoo. She'll be bringing her knowledge and experience to give a close-up into the mouth of a lion.

A ceramics sale will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on June 13 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 14 at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive. Works by more than 60 adult students will be up for sale.
