Good morning readers. As you shake off the long weekend and get back to work, here's a few things happening around the 818: 

A large protest is expected today at noon outside the new Hobby Lobby in Burbank. Protesters are expected to hand out condoms as a rebuke to the company's contraceptive policies. KNX/CBS2. 

Between 20 and 30 protesters confronted shoppers walking into the new Hobby Lobby on Victory Boulevard in Burbank Friday morning, upset over a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed the company to exempt certain contraceptives from employees' medical insurance on moral grounds. On Tuesday, the Pasadena Humane Society will waive all adoption fees for dogs, cats, rabbits and birds, including fees for the first round of vaccinations, spaying and neutering surgeries and micro-chipping. The event is dubbed “Gatto’s Gatos, Holden’s Huskies and Chau’s Chows,” named after Assemblymen Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake), Chris Holden (D-Pasadena) and Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park), who all helped organize the event. If ever there was a doubt to the dominance in which “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey rules the UFC women’s bantamweight division, she answered those doubts with brutal certainty Saturday night. In all of 16 seconds, Rousey knocked challenger Alexis Davis into unconsciousness in the UFC 175 co-main event to retain her UFC 135-pound championship. From La Cañada Flintridge to Seattle and everywhere in between, volleyball has certainly given former Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy standout Jenna Orlandini a great viewpoint of the country. Now the 23-year-old is expanding her horizons. Recently, Orlandini signed a professional contract with Vannes Volleyball Club of Vannes, France, which is located on the northwest corner of the country bordering the Atlantic Ocean.
